Here is some information regarding the Yearbook I have been teasing about the past year.
Ah, and after a year of waiting the big reveal day has arrived.
At the beginning of the year, one of the first things we do is brainstorm a collection of possible themes to do the Yearbook on. Obviously you want to stay away from the clichés; the ones that have been done time and time again. Originality is encouraged. One of the ideas we floated around was a Hollywood theme. Now, although it was something that many schools do every year, we felt we would put a little twist on it and focus on “classic” Hollywood, the era of the 1920s to the 1960s. The idea clicked, and we were settled. The race was on.
We have four deadlines from the printer to meet throughout the year (FYI, the course is a 2-credit/2-semester course, but the yearbook is usually done by March). The first is usually the biggest, especially for the editors (me) who have to correct the technical mistakes, etc. Yes, there were many 8am-to-6pm school days for me. After that, people tend to catch on and the process really speeds up.
This was the first year for me in the class. However, because my teacher was short a few senior students I was graciously promoted to Photography Editor, mostly because I already had plenty of experience in the programs we us.
Anyways, I’ve included some links to some of the pages “I” was responsible. Because of my experience, I was (and am) often the go-to person for any creative decisions and technical questions. As such, I was often tasked with the more daunting and technically challenging pages (we have 143 pages to do)

Although I keep being credited with the cover, I actually had little to do with it. Most of the concept and construction was completed by my teacher. The idea stemmed from watching old, classic films… Their opening credits often featured dark fabric backgrounds and the credits were organized onto the screen.
The parts I had the most fun with were the advertisements. You had a lot more creative freedom. They didn’t have to follow the theme of the book, and the teachers who had bought ads were relatively easy on allowing me to do my thing.
In terms of technical questions, we do not use some third-rate software provided by the printing company. All of the pages are constructed in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop CS2.
So there you have it. Any questions, comments, etc… ask away
